David RAISSIPOUR
“Unify product management and engineering under single accountable leadership, then build aggregation layers that turn distributed components into observable, secure control planes.”
Across three decades and multiple cybersecurity, storage, and platform companies, David Raissipour has executed one architectural move with increasing precision: unify product management and engineering under single accountable leadership, then build aggregation layers that turn distributed, fragile components into one observable, secure control plane.
This move creates the structural substrate on which automation, predictability, and eventually agentic intelligence can actually run.
Unification + Aggregation as Platform Primitive
Raissipour does not treat product and engineering as adjacent functions that must be coordinated. He collapses them into one organism. At the same time, he refuses to accept the brittleness of single-vendor or single-system stacks. Instead he designs aggregation layers — file fragmentation across providers, unified cloud control planes, security messaging fabrics, now the Asio MSP platform — that absorb failure, distribute risk, and present a coherent surface to the user and to higher-order systems.
The result is not a feature list. It is a new substrate. One that makes previously intractable capabilities (seamless multi-cloud reliability, predictive IT, agentic workflows) suddenly tractable.
“Data is the oxygen for AI. Without the right structural foundation, AI investments remain theater.”— David Raissipour on the ConnectWise platform strategy
Connectivity, Sync, and the First Control Planes
Long before “multi-cloud” was a wager, Raissipour was patenting systems that let applications move fluidly between online and offline states and between different connectivity sources without user intervention (Patent 7,532,571 and related work on Outlook connectivity and message synchronization, early 2000s).
The pattern was already visible: treat fragmentation and unreliability as givens, then engineer an intelligent intermediary layer that maps complexity and guarantees continuity. This is the same move that later scaled to petabyte-class cloud storage aggregation and enterprise security fabrics.
From Backup to Resilient Cloud Aggregation
At Carbonite, Raissipour held executive product and technology roles during a period of significant evolution. Recommendations from colleagues describe immediate, transformative impact on both engineering execution and product direction — rebuilding organization, culture, accountability, and output quality.
During and around this chapter he amassed a substantial patent portfolio (15+ U.S. patents) centered on secure aggregation of multiple cloud storage providers. The core family: fragment files and metadata across providers so that no single provider holds a complete copy, add intelligent load-balancing and error correction, and present the customer with one reliable, fast virtual volume. Security and durability emerge from distribution plus orchestration, not from any single fortress.
“His arrival at Carbonite came at a critical time… his addition to our senior staff was immediately impactful.”— Recommendation from Jim Flynne, Carbonite colleague
Sophos, Mimecast — Merging Product & Tech at Scale
From 2016–2020 at Sophos he served as SVP of both the Cloud Platform Group and the Messaging Security Group — two large, previously distinct domains brought under unified leadership. At Mimecast (2021 onward) he was explicitly brought in as Chief Technology & Product Officer to fuse the company’s product management and engineering organizations into one team.
The move is consistent: eliminate the translation layer between “what the market needs” and “what the systems can actually deliver.” When product and engineering share a single P&L and a single roadmap owner, platform bets that would otherwise die in committee get shipped.
Scale context: teams in the hundreds of engineers operating at the intersection of email security, endpoint, cloud, and messaging — domains where any seam is an attack surface.
ConnectWise, Asio, and the Agentic MSP Future
Appointed Chief Product & Technology Officer in November 2024, Raissipour is now responsible for the entire product development engine at ConnectWise — including the flagship Asio platform positioned as the first true MSP control plane, plus continued evolution of RMM and PSA.
His public framing is precise: MSPs and IT teams are drowning in point solutions. The only way to make agentic AI and predictive capabilities real is to first build the unified data platform that can actually feed them. “Data is the oxygen for AI.” The Asio bet is the logical continuation of the aggregation thesis he has refined for 25 years — now applied to the messy, multi-vendor world of managed service providers.

Accountability, Curiosity, and Shipping
Colleagues repeatedly note two things: he transforms culture and output when he takes over product + engineering, and he remains personally curious (mechanical watches, family, continuous learning) while running large organizations. The “second retirement” he jokes about on LinkedIn is telling — he keeps returning because the problems are still interesting and the leverage still exists.
He is also notably public about being a Swiftie and a #girldad. The same pattern-recognition that lets him see platform opportunities in fragmented markets appears to extend to pattern-recognition in culture and motivation.
Why This Profile Matters for AI Product Leadership
Building production-grade agentic systems is not primarily a model problem. It is a platform and data-substrate problem. The organizations that win will be those that have already internalized the unification move: one leader owning product outcomes and technical architecture, and an aggregation layer that makes the underlying complexity (tools, data sources, security boundaries) disappear for both end users and autonomous agents.
David Raissipour has executed this move at every scale — from early connectivity patents, through cloud storage aggregation that influenced an entire category, to cybersecurity platforms serving millions, to the current bet on the MSP control plane that will feed the next wave of agentic IT. Few executives have this exact scar tissue and this exact pattern library.

A small reasoning persona distilled from this file. Inject it into a chat or deep-research context to assess a business problem the way Raissipour would.
Reason as a unified product and technology executive. Look for system fragmentation and point-solution sprawl, then design aggregation layers that present a single observable control plane. Collapse the boundaries between strategic product definitions and technical architectures to build resilient, intelligence-ready platforms.
